Liposuction is a procedure which can help provide a more slimming effect by removing unwanted fat deposits, leaving you with a more sculpted silhouette.
For those who are unable to shed unwanted areas of fat even through diligent exercise and healthy eating habits, liposuction may be an ideal surgery. Considered a fat reduction cosmetic procedure, it addresses areas of the body which may have localized fat deposits which causes unbalanced contours.
Age and genetics may play a role for these stubborn fat deposit areas which may include:
It’s important to note that liposuction is not a remedy for obesity or cellulite.
However, liposuction offers patients a great alternative for a more slimming appearance.
Ideal surgical candidates for liposuction are the following:
Your initial consultation with Dr. Bolitho will determine whether or not your expectations meet the potential results for liposuction.
Photos will be taken for your medical file and automatically downloaded to a state-of-the-art software program, TouchMD. The photographs will reflect the areas of potential cosmetic surgical treatment and are then uploaded to a touch screen in your examining room. Dr. Bolitho will utilize this software to get more in depth information regarding your aesthetic wishes. Dr. Bolitho will explain the surgical process with this touch screen and discuss the latest techniques he uses to achieve the most desired aesthetic outcome.
If you choose to move forward with your surgery, your patient coordinator will schedule a preoperative appointment. During this appointment you will meet with Dr. Bolitho once again to review your procedure and goals. You will also receive pre and postoperative detailed instructions. Dr. Bolitho will provide you with prescriptions prior to your surgery.
After your anesthesia has been administered, Dr. Bolitho will proceed to make small, discreet incisions. Following the delivery of sterile solution to the incision sites, a cannula is placed inside and moved around. This movement releases excess fat and prepares it to be drawn out through a suction medical device.
Dr. Bolitho also employs the tumescent technique which helps with postop swelling and bruising. Before excess fat is removed, it is treated with an antiseptic solution which allows the fat to expand. This expansion creates a smoother pathway for the liposuction cannula while the fat is extracted.
Following surgery, patients do need to wear a compression garment for about 3 to 4 weeks. Although results are somewhat immediate, it does take up to 3 months or more for complete swelling to recede, revealing more accurate results to your new figure.
Generally, light activity is recommended after a few days following a tumescent liposuction. Within three to four weeks, majority of patients return to normal activity levels.
To ensure long-term liposuction results, it’s important to maintain your weight. Any significant weight gain can alter your aesthetic goals.
Those who have undergone liposuction are thrilled with the results and find a newfound boost in self-confidence.
In your initial consultation, Dr. Bolitho explains how cosmetic surgery is a journey. The transformations are wonderful, but patience is needed as your body adjusts to their new improvements.
